The Organizational Sieve: Turning the Revolutionary into an Employee and the Fighter into a Day Laborer

Mahdi Kawrani — 2026.09.30

In certain resistance movements around the world, the organizational sieve can, over time, operate in reverse: instead of selecting the most faithful, zealous, and self-sacrificing individuals, the organization gradually begins selecting those who are most obedient, personally closest to officials, and most regular in routine daily work. Consequently, revolutionary criteria shift from faith, zeal, insight, readiness for sacrifice, and patriotism toward obedience, personal connections, and office attendance.

It is here that the most dangerous transformation occurs: the revolutionary becomes an employee, the fighter becomes a day laborer, and the bearer of a mission becomes a jobholder within the organization.

The issue is not with discipline or obedience, as both are essential to any organization. The problem begins when obedience becomes a substitute for insight, personal loyalty replaces competence, daily attendance replaces readiness for sacrifice, and obeying instructions supersedes initiative and moral courage.

Therefore, resistance organizations require periodic reviews of their internal sieve, asking:

Are we seeking the obedient or the conscious?

The well-connected or the competent?

The executor or the initiator?

The clock-in employee or the bearer of a mission?

The position preserver or the responsibility bearer?

Building a military leadership capable of rectifying defects does not mean searching for the most confrontational individuals. Rather, it means seeking leaders who combine faith with competence, discipline with initiative, obedience with insight, courage with humility, and experience with the capacity for self-criticism.

An army or organization that fails to review its standards may remain organized on the outside, but it gradually loses its fighting spirit from within.

The most paramount rule is this:

A successful organization does not merely produce men who obey; it produces men who understand, initiate, sacrifice, and correct errors when they see them.

When maintaining a position becomes more important than fulfilling the mission, the institution has begun producing employees for the revolution instead of producing revolutionaries.
