A List of Films That Reveal What Our Children May Suffer in the Near Future

Mohammad Kawrani

In a world where greed and avarice are increasingly dominating political and economic systems, cinema emerges as a warning mirror reflecting a very dangerous reality.

The real problem is not the existence of this information, nor is it understanding how dangerous it is. The real problem is being truly aware of this danger. Why does everyone consider it an unavoidable fate? Why does no one rise up against this reality? Why does everyone ignore it and simply adapt to it? And the fundamental question is: Why does no one resist this overwhelming tide with all the strength they possess? Why does no one denounce it? At the very least, why have we not all prayed to the Lord, God, and Creator—each according to his own language and faith—to send a savior and redeemer for humanity?

We present a list of some of the most important films that expose what they portray as the plans of corporations and the wealthy to enslave us through technology and consumerism, as well as the dangers threatening future generations.

1. Consumer Culture and the Manipulation of Minds

“Idiocracy” (2006) presents a terrifying vision of the future in which humanity’s intelligence declines while corporations dominate society through a shallow consumer culture. People irrigate their crops with soft drinks instead of water, and an average man becomes “the smartest person on Earth.” The film warns that excessive dependence on technology and blind consumerism may lead to the deterioration of our intellectual abilities.

“They Live” (1988) gives us magical glasses through which we can see the hidden reality: secret messages controlling us, such as “Stay asleep,” “Do not invent,” and “Obey authority.” The film reveals how ruling elites use mass media to keep society in a state of unconsciousness and blind obedience.

“The Cost of Convenience” (2024) is a documentary exposing how our addiction to social media is not merely entertainment but fuel for global chaos. It follows how technology companies harvest our data to shape our behavior, turning the human experience into a commodity and privacy into a memory of the past.

2. The Greed of Financial Systems and the Destruction of Societies

“The Wolf of Wall Street” (2013) portrays the rise and fall of a fraudulent stockbroker, exposing the culture of greed, drugs, and corruption that dominates Wall Street. The film reveals how the wealthy place themselves above the law while selling illusions to ordinary people for enormous profits.

“Margin Call” (2011) follows the critical moments before the financial collapse of 2008, when analysts at an investment bank discover that the company is on the verge of bankruptcy. Instead of correcting the situation, the executives decide to sell toxic assets to the public to save themselves, sacrificing the entire market.

“Surplus: Terrorized into Being Consumers” (2003) is an award-winning documentary showing how the system frightens us into becoming consumers. It asks: Why doesn’t the privilege of buying bring happiness? And why is there so much emptiness despite material wealth?

3. A Satire of Class-Based Greed

“Triangle of Sadness” (2022), winner of the Palme d’Or, takes us aboard a luxury yacht carrying some of the world’s richest people. The film completely reverses the social hierarchy when circumstances change, proving that the cleaning lady is the only one capable of surviving. It asks: Are we prisoners of a predetermined class system?

“Parasite” (2019), winner of the Academy Award, portrays the struggle between two families from different social classes in Seoul, revealing that class inequality is not merely about money but an existential conflict that drives the poor to infiltrate the lives of the rich through disturbing means.

“Veni Vidi Vici” (2024) presents an elegant billionaire and seemingly perfect husband who is, in reality, a cold-blooded killer. The question the film asks is: “Who is going to stop me?” When the wealthy reach a level of power that places them above the law, everything becomes permissible.

4. Technology as a Tool of Domination

“Chopping Mall” (1986), although an older film, carries a warning that has become even more urgent today. It tells the story of security robots that malfunction and turn into killers inside a shopping mall. The film symbolizes how automation and artificial intelligence could ultimately consume humanity for the sake of corporate profits.

“2073” (2024) combines documentary and drama to portray a terrifying future dominated by “surveillance capitalism,” where the environment collapses and democracy disintegrates under the overwhelming power of the tech billionaires.

“Word of Mouth” (2025) tells the story of a lonely woman who becomes addicted to an intelligent application that alters her communication with others for the benefit of a marketing company. The film warns that technological capitalism not only influences our behavior but also reprograms the very way we communicate.

5. One Film That Summarizes the Entire Story

“No Other Choice” (2026) tells the story of a middle-aged employee who loses his job after an American corporation acquires his factory. He finds himself forced to kill his competitors in order to obtain the only remaining position. The film vividly portrays how the capitalist system pushes human beings to the edge of despair, stripping men of their identity and values and transforming them into monsters who kill one another simply to survive.

These films are not merely entertainment; they are educational tools that encourage us to ask: Who controls our future? Why do we allow greed and a privileged minority to determine the destiny of future generations? The answer begins by watching these cinematic warnings—and then taking a stand.

What Dangers May Future Generations Face?

If the culture of greed and consumerism continues without moral or legal restraints, societies may face challenges such as:

Increasing addiction to smartphones and social media platforms.

The weakening of family and social relationships.

Psychological isolation and rising rates of anxiety and depression.

A decline in reading and deep thinking.

Excessive consumption and the depletion of natural resources.

Increased waste and environmental pollution.

A widening gap between the rich and the poor.

The monopolization of data and technology by giant corporations.

The loss of many jobs due to automation and artificial intelligence.

The erosion of privacy as a result of digital data collection.

Transforming human beings into perpetual consumers rather than producers and creators.

The spread of advertising and marketing that encourage constant purchasing.

The dominance of celebrity culture at the expense of knowledge and meaningful work.

The weakening of community bonds and volunteerism.

Rising personal debt caused by unnecessary consumption.

Declining physical health due to increasingly sedentary lifestyles.

The weakening of individual independence before algorithms that recommend what we should watch, buy, and read.

The Real Problem

The real problem is not the existence of this information, nor is it understanding how dangerous it is. The real problem is being truly aware of this danger. Why does everyone consider it an unavoidable fate? Why does no one rise up against this reality? Why does everyone ignore it and simply adapt to it? And the fundamental question is: Why does no one resist this overwhelming tide with all the strength they possess? Why does no one denounce it? At the very least, why have we not all prayed to the Lord, God, and Creator—each according to his own language and faith—to send a savior and redeemer for humanity?
